Advances in financial technology have made people increasingly accustomed to cashless transactions. From payments via QRIS, digital wallets, to instant interbank transfers, everything is fast and convenient. This phenomenon has also driven major changes in the tax system. The government is currently aggressively digitizing taxes to adapt to the increasingly cashless transaction patterns of modern society.
Tax digitalization is not just a trend, but a necessity. As more economic activity occurs digitally, whether through e-commerce, fintech platforms, or online MSMEs, conventional tax systems are becoming less efficient for accurately monitoring and collecting taxes. Through digital data integration, the government can increase transparency, reduce the potential for tax evasion, and expand the taxpayer base without increasing the administrative burden on businesses.
One concrete step is the implementation of e-Invoices, e-Bupots, and the Core Tax System developed by the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT). With these systems, tax reporting and payments are easier, faster, and accessible anytime through digital devices. Businesses no longer need to visit the tax office in person or fill out time-consuming manual forms.
For the general public, tax digitization also offers significant benefits. For example, vehicle tax, property tax (PBB), and income tax payments can now be made through financial applications, e-commerce, and even digital wallets like DANA and Gopay. All of this makes taxation more accessible and less complicated.
However, this transformation also requires increased financial and digital literacy among the public. Many taxpayers, especially in the regions, still don't understand how to optimally utilize digital tax services. Therefore, public education is key to ensuring the benefits of tax digitization are felt equitably and inclusively.
By moving towards a fully digital tax system, Indonesia will not only strengthen state revenue but also build a transparent, efficient economic ecosystem that is ready to face the era of a cashless society.
